Clark County Fire Department Rural Division
Trout Canyon Station 70
Trout Canyon Station 70 Overview
Trout Canyon Station 70 is part of the Clark County Fire Department’s Rural Division, located at 1340 North Trout Canyon Road, Las Vegas. This station is staffed by volunteer firefighters who serve the Trout Canyon community and surrounding areas. The station operates an Advanced Life Support (ALS) Engine 70, equipped to respond to various emergencies, including medical incidents and fires.
The Trout Canyon area is situated on the west side of the Spring Mountains, approximately 13 miles east of Pahrump, at an elevation of about 5,800 feet. The community is characterized by an intermix wildland-urban interface, with structures scattered throughout the wildland area. Access to the area is primarily via Trout Canyon Road, a dirt two-lane road approximately 11 miles long that intersects with Highway 160.
Volunteer firefighters assigned to Station 70 are required to have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, a valid Class C Nevada Driver’s License, and certifications in CPR, AED, and EMT (Basic, Advanced, or Paramedic). Desirable certifications include Nevada Class B with F endorsement driver’s license, Firefighter 1 (IFSAC), Hazardous Materials Awareness (IFSAC), and Hazardous Materials Operations (IFSAC).
The Trout Canyon community faces challenges related to wildfire risk due to its location and topography. The area has a history of large and moderate fire occurrences, with dense vegetation and strong, erratic winds that can exacerbate fire behavior. Efforts are ongoing to enhance community preparedness and defensible space to mitigate these risks.
